A morphological reading in adana historic city center: Physical transformation of Abidinpasa Avenue between 1938-2018

In 19. Century, the historical and physical development of cities were investigated and urban space was defined by various disciplines. Urban morphology which explains form transformations in urban space, takes the historical and the sociological structure of the cities as context by defining these transformations using scientific methods. The purpose of this thesis to investigate the physical analysis of Abidinpaşa Avenue between 1938-2018 by using morphological methods and to explain the factors behind the tranformations.Within this aim, morphological analysis methods developed by M.R.G Conzen and Gianfranco Caniggia are used focusing on the data derived from maps, drawings and old newspapers. As a result of the investigation, it is ascertained that while no extensive change has occured in street sysytem and relationship between plots and blocks, the function, characteristics and number of storeys had changed dramatically between 1938 and 2018 in the multilayered Abidinpaşa Avenue, which is believed to be formed during Roman Period.
