Abstract (EN)

Key Words: Soil Amplification, Soil Characteristics of Adapazari, Shake2000, Local Site Conditions In this study, it has been purposed to determine the value of soil amplification on the strong ground motion in Adapazari region. One dimensional ground response analyses has been performed by using the SHAKE2000 computer program on the estimated soil properties from the deep boring logs by using 17 August 1999 Marmara, 13 March 1992 Erzincan and 12 November 1999 Düzce earthquake records. The response spectrum of soil profiles that has been considered in the analyses at ground surface has been compared with recommending design spectra in the earthquake codes such as Turkish Earthquake Codes of 2007 and Eurocode8. Furthermore, it has been showed the transfer functions between sublayer and surface, the peak ground acceleration values dependent depth and Fourier spectrums. Obtained results from the analyses show that the response spectrum of investigated soils is located outside of recommending design spectra in the codes, the peak ground acceleration values at the soil surface is greater than values of soil sublayers and since soils have nonlinear properties it is occurred greater amplification at small acceleration or smaller amplification at greater accelerations. According to this research, it is stated that the local site conditions must be considered in terms of earthquake-resistant structural design.
