The examination of trainee teachers perceptions of their mentors sufficiency in terms of different variables (Balıkesir sample)

The purpose of this research is to determine the perception of the sufficiency of the mentors of teacher trainees and to establish the existing circumstances and to make suggestions according to the inferences about the subject. A questionnaire which is developed by the researcher was used to collect data. The questionnaire was applied to the teachers who began their first year of teaching in 2004-2005. During a specific study which was made to examine the form of the questionnaire, 50 of the teacher trainees were met and the necessary corrections were made. And the questionnaire was applied to the remaining 203 of 278 trainees. According to these results the 73 % of teacher trainees has been met in total. The data which are collected by the researcher was analyzed with SPSS 13.0 for Windows (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) programme. The methods which are used to analyze the data are; Frequencies, percentages, average and Standard Deviance of defining statistics for the results that are from the personal characteristics of mentors and teacher trainees,And the ?Bonferroni Multiple Comparison Test? was applied to find the group which causes this difference, According to the perception of the teacher trainees, the sufficiency level of the mentors is as; Preparation for the lesson and planning: 3.38, Guidance: 3.32, Evaluation: 3.22, Teaching: 3.18, Knowledge of the regulations: 2.95The sufficiency of the mentors according to the trainees in terms of Lesson Preparation and Planning, Teaching, Guidance, knowledge of Regulations, Evaluation is perceived as a whole because there is a statistically meaningful relationship between all of the variables.As a result, the level of mentors? sufficiency according to their trainees is low, and there are various problems about the training of prospective teachers.Various suggestions for these matters are presented in this research.
