Abstract (EN)

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the chronic inflammatory and demyelinating neurological disease of the Central Nerveus System (CNS). MS frequently influences young adults. MS is a multifactorial disease including genetic, environmental and immunological factors in its etiology. Human leukocyte antigen class I and class II groups are the two most widely studied groups of MS genetics studies. Vitamin receptor D gene and IL7 (Interleukine) and IL2 polymorphisms have significant effects in MS genetics. The relation between adiponectin and MS is a recent topic that is still being studied. Adiponectin is a plasma glycoprotein originating from adipose-tissue. Adipose tissue is not only a storage for lipids, but also a tissue, where various cytokines are secreted from. Adiponectin is one of the most important secreted cytokines. Besides its regulatory roles in glucose and lipid metabolism, it has antiinflammatory, antiatherogenic and antidiabetic roles. A variety of polimorphisms have been described on adiponectin gene. +45T>G (rs2241766) and +276G>T (rs1501299) polymorphisms are the most common and the most widely studied ones. Some studies revealed reverse relation between polimorhisms and serum adiponectin levels, which were attributed to the presence of tip 2 diabet, obesity, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases. Adiponectin levels were measured in cerebrospinal fluid and blood serum samples in limited number of studies about the relation between adiponectin and MS. In our study, we examined the roles of adipoQ gene +45T>G and +276G>T polimorphism in MS etiology, which are the most common polymorphisms and could be related with serum adiponectin levels. We could not find statistically significant associations between case and control groups for both variations.
