The concordance and functional glossary for the Divan of Adlî

Classical Turkish poetry is such a kind that has faced many problems in understanding by today's reader because of various factors. The reason of the problems cannot be explained solely by the fact that the language of the period and today's language used are different in shape. One of the most important reasons preventing classical poetry from being understood is suggested to be the estrangement against cultural accumulation existed in the background of the language. The studies for Concordance and Functional Glossary must be intended to achieve the difficulties both in their linguistic shapes and the matters emerged due to the underlying cultural background. Otherwise any difference will not be existed between the mentioned dictionaries and conventional dictionaries insomuch that they can mostly become studies causing damages rather than being misleading ones. The Concordance and Functional Glossary for the Divan of Adlî is a study done by considering the mentioned precision. In the study; each couplet is annotated first and all references are tried to be detected, furthermore; it has been transformed into a glossary format most likely to be possible. While preparing the glossary; necessary clarifications are given for the poems to be understood by the reader at all levels, by items in detail as soon as possible. The aim of the research can be summarized as; revealing the meaning of the Divan of Adlî by all subtleties, detecting the presence of sayings belonged to the mentioned research, providing the necessary data storage for wording, contributing to the historical glossary of Turkish language, presenting the classical poetry for today's reader with a sense of meaning and providing systematic data for analytical work to be done. To achieve this aim, the study is formed in three chapters. The first chapter is consisted of general information relating studies about Adlî, the Divan of Adlî and contextual dictionaries. The second one is the reviewing chapter. In this chapter; necessary issues are mentioned relating the third chapter as the substantial one. Finally, the third chapter is the glossary section, which is being the main body of the study. All the words included in the text within this chapter are arranged in alphabetical order due to their contextual status and functions.
