Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the 2D:4D finger ratio and accurate shooting and some respiratory parameters in adolescent basketball players. This study was conducted using a relational screening model. Thirty-five male basketball players (13.57 ± 2.52 years) volunteered for the study. Participants underwent respiratory function testing, 2D:4D finger ratio measurement, and anthropometric measurements. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 software package. Normality analysis of the data was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Pearson Correlation analysis, a parametric test, was used to analyze normally distributed data. The significance level in the study was accepted as (p<0.05). The study found a statistically significant positive correlation between the 2D:4D finger ratio and accurate shooting, and between the 2D:4D finger ratio and some respiratory parameters (FEV1/FVC%, FEF25-75%, MVV) (p<0.05). These findings indicate that as the 2D:4D finger ratio increases, accurate shooting success also increases significantly. Furthermore, they also reveal a strong correlation between the 2D:4D finger ratio and some respiratory parameters. Consequently, higher 2D:4D finger ratios may be considered advantageous in sports requiring skill, attention, visual-motor coordination, and fine motor control, such as basketball.
