Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between coronal and sagittal plane deformities, spinopelvic parameters, various clinical features, and quality of life, self-esteem, body image perception, and hypermobility in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis cases. Method: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis cases presenting to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department clinics of the Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine Hospital were included. Two-directional scoliosis radiographs taken within the last 3 months were uploaded to the SURGİMAP application via PACS, and Cobb angles, thoracic kyphosis angle, lumbar lordosis angle, pelvic tilt angle, pelvic incidence angle, sacral slope angle, and sagittal vertical axis parameters were measured. Clinically, patient assessment form, Walter Reed Visual Assessment Scale for body image perception evaluation, Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory for self-esteem evaluation, SRS-22 Scoliosis Patient Questionnaire for quality of life evaluation, and Beighton Score for hypermobility assessment were used. Results: It was determined that Cobb angles, rotation degrees, female gender, and brace use influenced the quality of life of the cases. Body image perception was found to be affected by Cobb angles, rotation degrees, female gender, thoracic, and double curves. Self-esteem was found to be higher in the hypolordotic group and cases with posterior pelvic tilt. Negative correlations were found between hypermobility scores and thoracic kyphosis, lumbar lordosis, and Cobb 2 angles. Conclusion: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is a highly complex disease. Evaluation and treatment of this complex disease should take into account not only coronal plane deformities but also sagittal plane deformities, spinopelvic parameters, as well as individuals' hypermobility and psychosocial statuses.
