Evaluation of oxidative stress and antioxidant parameters in patients with adriablastin-cyclophosphamide chemotherapy began for newly diagnosed breast cancer

Breast cancer is malign proliferation of lobular or tubular epithelium of the mammarian tissue. Among all cancers breast cancer is number four with the insidance of 0.0179% and among women number one with the insidance of 0.0373%. It is also fifth common cause of all cancer mortalities and first amoung women breast cancer treatment opportunities are surgical interventions, chemotherapy, hormonotherapy and targeted biologic treatment strategies.The initiating factor of cancer is the damage of DNA and other cellular molecules by free oxygene radicals. Exogenous or endogenous antioxidants can prevent the carsinogenesis via neutralising the free oxygene radicals. In this study we aimed to determine the oxidative stres (MDA, TOS) and antioxidant parameters (TAK) in patients with breast cancer that receives adriamycin-cyclophosphamide chemotherapy regimen due to this chemotherapy.This study compasses the 25 adult patients in the Medikal Oncology Clinic of Firat University Hospital with novelly diagnosed breast cancer that receives AC chemotherapy regimen. We take blood specimens at three determined time and investigated MDA, TOS, TAK besides other necessary parameters.TOS levels were significantly higher in the third period than first and second periods (p<0.05) . MDA and TAK levels were not significantly different between periods. Although TAK levels decreased in the third period than first and second periods, it was not statistically significant.In this study we determined that after the chemotherapy, SOR increase and antioxidant parameters decrease.Keywords: Breast cancer, AC chemotherapy, total oxidative stres, antioxidant capacity, malondialdehyde.
