Özet (EN)

Aim: In this study, it is aimed to analyze statistical data by investigating potential drug-drug interactions, polypharmacy presence and frequency and treatment compatibility encountered during treatment of intensive care patients aged 18 years and over. It is also aimed to investigate the effects of these variables on the quality of life of patients such as hospitalized period and mortality. Naterial and method: Among the 359 patients aged 18 years and over, at least two days hospitalized in the reanimation, cardiology and internal intensive care unit of Adıyaman Training and Research Hospital 100 patients were selected by random sampling with SPSS 22.0 program. The data were collected from patients who were hospitalized in intensive care units between October 1, 2015 and March 31, 2016 through the hospital information management system on behalf of the individual. Statistical analyzes were performed in the SPSS 22.0 program. The level of significance was at least p <0.05. Results: A total of 386 independent drug-drug interaction pairs were found in 100 patients who constituted the study material and 3643 total interactions were detected during the period that the patients were in the hospital. According to the investigation of drug interactions, it was found to be independent of gender. In study, the presence of polypharmacy increased the drug interaction frequency (p <0.05). Among the drugs used in the services, the most interacting drug pair was identified as albuterol-furosemide. Conclusion: In the study we performed locally, the incidence of drug interactions was high in intensive care units. These drug interactions seen in patients have been found to be life-threatening drug interactions in some situations. In order to prevent these situations, a drug interaction analysis program integrated into the hospital information system should be used, written prescriptions should be controlled by pharmacists, and studies should be carried out to raise the awareness of health professionals, primarily physicians, on drug interaction. Key words: Drug-drug interaction, mortality, polypharmacy, intensive care unit.
