A research on the current status and development strategies of Adıyaman city tourism

Today, cities rich in physical, social and cultural resources have become a frequented point of domestic and foreign visitors. This has created a driving force in the development of many cities and countries. The main purpose of this research; To determine and improve the city tourism potential of Adıyaman province for the development of strategies. Qualitative methods research was used in order to obtain in -depth results in accordance with this purpose. In the study, the status study pattern, one of the qualitative research types, was used. In the research, semi -structured interview technique was used as data collection technique. In this context, an interview form consisting of 11 questions was used. Interview forms were asked to the tourism stakeholders in Adıyaman (Museum Directorate, Provincial Culture and Tourism Directorate, Tourism Academicians, Travel Agencies, Hotel Managers and Local People). The negotiations were held between July and September 2022. The data obtained were analyzed by using qualitative data analysis program in MAXQDA. A total of 4 themes, 12 code and 4 sub -code were created based on the data obtained during the research. In the light of the data obtained in the study, it was concluded that Adıyaman has a high potential for city tourism. However, the results of the Mount Nemrut in Adıyaman is the largest touristic resource value and charm element of the province, that the promotions regarding the tourism activities in Adıyaman were insufficient and that the tourism infrastructure of Adıyaman was insufficient. In addition, according to the participants' statements, Adıyaman should be at the forefront with cultural tourism. Based on the results obtained, suggestions were made for public institutions, private sector, Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism and academicians.
