Environmental problems after disasters and emergencies: The case of Elaziğ province

History has witnessed disasters and emergencies in the world for centuries and still does. For this reason, disasters and emergencies greatly affect life all over the world. The impact of disasters and emergencies on environmental problems and the impact of environmental problems on disaster emergencies have emerged more clearly with this study. Disasters and emergencies were examined in two groups as man-made and natural-origin, and the differences in the impact area due to the types of these disasters were mentioned. Experiencing only one of the environmental problems or disaster emergencies can bring life to a standstill, while experiencing two situations in conjunction with each other causes much greater losses. For this reason, we can say that making the necessary plans for disasters and emergencies means taking the necessary precautions for environmental problems. While some epidemics, refugee migrations, and pollution are included in the environmental problems group, they are also called disasters and emergencies due to the sudden losses and damages they cause. The fact that the February 6 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes caused secondary disasters together with the effects of these disasters and emergencies on the environment is one of the examples that can be given to this situation. After the February 6 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, all of Turkey, including 11 provinces, was deeply shaken. After these earthquakes, it was understood once again how effective a good disaster management planning was on the environment and public health, and it was tried to prevent the problems occurring in the environment and the negative effects on public health due to these problems. The connection between the experienced disasters and emergencies and environmental problems was first discussed in the context of the 6 February Kahramanmaraş earthquake, and in the following sections, it was limited to the province of Elazig, and the disasters and emergencies experienced in the province of Elazig and the environmental problems that occurred after these situations were examined. In the face of these problems, it was explained what kind of measures were taken and studies were carried out by collecting data from the necessary institutions.
