A research on the ornamentations of 13th-15th century mosques located in Afyonkarahisar

The construction of the masjids and mosques in the center of Afyonkarahisar in centuries between 13-15 was started by Architect Bedreddin Gühertaş, who was assigned to politically protect and repair Akronium/Akruenüs Castle (Afyonkarahisar Castle) by the order of the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alâeddin Keykubad Khan. Then, the construction of mosques and masjids continued in the Principalities and Ottoman Periods. The historical change of the mosques in the center of Afyonkarahisar, from the Ottoman period to the present of the Republic of Turkey, is also reflected in their decorations. Thesis aims to reveal the original decorations of the mosques as much as possible after giving general information about the mosques and masjids in the center of Afyonkarahisar in the centruies between 13 and 15. The differences or similarities that emerged in the decoration of the mosques and masjids in the center of Afyonkarahisar in the 13th-15th centuries are quite remarkable. There is no dedicated research on the decorations of the 13th-15th century Afyonkarahisar central mosques. It is hoped that the study will contribute to this issue. After the literature search was carried out in accordance with the subject of the thesis, the mosques in the center of Afyonkarahisar were examined on site and photos were taken. Information exchange was made with the relevant institutions and organizations about the subject. As a result of the information and findings obtained, some of the mosques and masjids built during the Anatolian Seljuk, Principalities and Ottoman Periods in the centuries between 13 and 15 center of Afyonkarahisar have survived to the present day. Although some of them have largely lost their original architecture, they contain original ornamental parts. Even some of it has survived architecturally, it does not contain an original piece of ornamentation. It has been determined that some of them have not reached the present day. Here, after general information was provided about the mosques in center Afyonkarahisar in the centruies between 13 and 15 and the places of worship converted from a masjid to a mosque, it was tried to reveal the similarities or differences between the periods by handling the ornamental features of the mentioned structures.
