The effect of coloring for brown tone with the reaction of waterbased varnishes and waterborne coatings on wood materials

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine the impact of colour changes on wood materials which were painted with waterborne wood coatings and waterbased varnishes. For this purpose, test specimens were prepared with from beech (Fagus orientalis L.), oak (Quercus petraea L.) and pine trees (Pinus sylvestris L.) according to ASTM-358 and colouration with aniline, ready-made mixture and chemical stain for coatings in respect of ASTM-E 1347-97 and than covered according to ASTM-D 3023 with waterbased varnishes. The effect of colour changes with Waterbased varnishes and waterborne coatings was carried out according to the ASTM-D-2244. According to the result of the research, at the level of tree type, the colour changes as brown tone was occurred on the oak, at the level of coatings type, the colour changes were occurred on ready-made mixture stains, at the level of varnish type, the changes were found with the one component varnish. The lowest colour changes were found on the scotch pine, chemical stain and two component varnishes. In respect to the reaction of wood, varnish and stain types, the highest value was obtained from the oak (25,87) which was coated with ready made mixture stains, the lowest value was obtained from the beech (9,559) which was varnished with two component and coated with chemical stains. If needed brown tone in furniture and decoration application, it is suggested to use beech wood whish is coated with chemical stains and varnished with waterbased varnishes with two component.
