Abstract (EN)

In the study titled "Ağrı Senators and Their Activities" prepared as a Master's Thesis, the political, economic, social and cultural activities of the senators who served in the Senate of the Republic representing Ağrı between 1961-1980 are examined. With the 1961 Constitution, which was adopted following the Military Coup of May 27, 1960, Turkey moved to a bicameral legislative system and the Senate of the Republic was involved in the legislative processes as the second chamber of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). With the 1980 Military Coup, this system ended and Türkiye returned to a single-parliamentary structure. The Senate of the Republic, which operated for approximately 19 years, played an important role in the political dynamics of the period and was effective in determining various policies at the local and national levels through senators represented on a provincial basis. In this context, the study examines in detail the biographies of Veysi Yardımcı, Salih Türkmen and Kasım Küfrevi, who were elected to the Senate of the Republic from Ağrı, the roles they played in the legislative processes of the Senate, the speeches they made in the Turkish Grand National Assembly and the bills they submitted. Within the scope of the study, how senators bring up national and local issues, their political tendencies within the parliament and their initiatives for regional development were examined.
