Imam Shamil and the struggle against Russian invasion in the North Caucasus according to the history of Muhammed Tahir el-Karakhi

One of the significant historical sources to study the National Struggle against Tsarist Russian occupation in the North Caucasus in the 19th century is the work named "Barikatu's Suyufid-Dagestaniyye fi Gazavat ash-Shamiliyye" ("The shining of Dagestani swords in some of the Shamil's gazavats") by the Dagestani famous scholar Mohammed Tahir al-Karakhi. This work, which was written at the personal request of Imam Shamil, is unique in terms of being the only local historical source depicting these events. Having also traits of Gazavatnameh it includes events in times of Imam Gazi Muhammed, Imam Khamzat Bey and Imam Shamil. Present thesis deals wih the National Struggle led by Imams against Russia in the North Caucasus based on data from Muhammed Tahir el- Karakhi's "Barikatu's Suyufid-Dagestaniyye fi gazavat ash-Shamiliyye".
