Özet (EN)

One of the foods that frequently cause allergies in children is sesame. Studies on the subject in our country are limited. The aim of our study is to reveal the frequency of sesame sensitivity in patients with allergic symptoms and to reveal its relationship with other allergic diseases. In this study, Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Application Hospital Pediatric immunology and allergy polyclinic between August 2020-August 2021; A total of 808 patients aged 1 to 18 years who applied or were followed up with atopic dermatitis, urticaria, asthma bronchial, allergic rhinitis, wheezing and other diagnoses were included in the study. The mean age of the cases was 5.71±5.18. Skin prick test was performed on the children included in the study. In all cases with positive skin prick test, complete blood count, sesame specific IgE, total IgE were measured and nutrient challenge test with sesame was performed. Skin prick test was positive in 386 (47.8%) of the patients who participated in our study. There were 24 (3%) patients with sesame positivity in the skin test. Among these 24 cases, there were 3 (0.4%) patients with sesame specific IgE ≥ 0.35 Ku/l positive. In the comparisons we made by dividing the cases into positive and negative sesame skin test; Itching is more common in cases with positive sesame skin test (p=0.029), allergic diseases are more common in cases with positive sesame skin test (p=0.020), sesame skin test positivity is found to be more frequent as age decreases (p=0.009) and Eosinophil count was found to be higher in patients with positive sesame skin test (p=0.009). Sesame challenge test was performed on 24 cases with positive sesame skin test. Sesame challenge test was found positive in 7 (0.86%) of these cases. According to these results, sesame allergy was diagnosed in 7 (0.86%) of our 808 cases. As a result, sesame allergy was found at a remarkable rate in children with a diagnosis of allergic disease in our region.
