Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, it is aimed to reveal the musical understanding of the composer by examining the ballet music of two acts "A Dove's Tale", one of Ahmed Adnan Saygun's recent works, from basic aspects such as form, harmony, instrumentation and orchestration. In addition to the important places of the work, the subjects and characters contained in the ballet script and the score notes were examined and the way their depiction was done with music was semtinized. During the study of the work, first of all, form analysis was performed, which scales were created by the elements that make up the musical writing. It is seen that Saygun uses various maqam colors as contrapuntally and harmonically, especially pentatonic array, octatonic array, chromatic array, full-tone array, while revealing his own musical language. In addition to this, it can be said that he created his own expressionist understanding by using the chords obtained by freely placing the sounds of various series on top of each other, especially the favorite chord consisting of P4 and m3 intervals, horizontally and vertically. The important parts of the work, especially the musical ideas depicting the script, were examined in terms of instrumentation and orchestration. It can be said that the instruments are positioned in a balanced way, taking into account the dynamic balance of the instrument, and the effect that needs to be created by consciously using the sound regions of the instrument and orchestra is skillfully demonstrated. In addition, when evaluated in terms of orchestration, it is seen that the contrast and color transitions created with a unique aesthetic understanding play an active role in the expression of the movement and feelings in the script. The ballet "A Dove's Tale" which has traditional characters such as jinn prince and monarch, is one of the masterpieces of the national Turkish ballet with its traditional and universal colors in the context of music.
