Transcription of Ahmed Midhat Efendi's Tedrîs-i Târîh-i Edyân

In this study, Ahmed Midhat Efendi's book which named Tedrîs-i Târîh-i Edyân was transcribed and comparative evaluation was made with the other books written under the name of Târîh-i Edyân. The work which is the subject of the study was written as a schoolbook in 1911 to be taught in the lessons of History of Religions given by Ahmed Midhat Efendi in Dâru'l-Fünûn. This work which was accepted as a first books in the field of History of Religions in the last period of Ottoman Empire, compared to the western examples, has an important place in terms of it's subjects. It consists of 326 pages. Divided into two main chapter. In the first chapter; importance of History of Religions, necessary preperations of teacher and student, formation of idea of religion and it's development process and such as subjects were mentioned. In the second part; beginning from the Fetichism to the Buddhism, all religions were examined under the specific titles. In the following period of the Ahmed Midhat Efendi's work, three more Târîh-i Edyân books appear. These three books are Mehmed Esad's Tahlîlî ve Tenkîdî Târîh-i Edyân, Mahmud Esad Seydişehrî's Târîh-i Edyân and M. Şemseddin Günaltay's Târîh-i Edyân. In the third part of our thesis, these book's comparative evaluation will be made.
