Abstract (EN)

The 19th century was a period of great change and transformation for the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire went through a renewal with all its institutions and replaced the institutions that had difficulty in keeping up with the age and that had fallen into decline with time with new ones. One of the areas of change in this period was the field of law. This process, which started in the early 19th century before the Tanzimat Period, witnessed a great change and transformation in Ottoman Law with the Tanzimat Period. A new Commercial Code was established in 1850. The developments in Commercial Law since then were published by Ahmed Reşid in 1895 under the title of Hukuk-u Ticaret. Originally from Safranbolulu, Ahmed Reşid Pasha was born in Istanbul on 10 April 1858. After graduating from the School of Law, he worked in different items of the Council of State and then rose to the position of governor in the Civil Administration. In addition to his statesmanship, he wrote an independent work titled Hukuk-u Ticaret (Law of Commerce) based on the legal education he received. The aforementioned work, which is one of the main sources in terms of legal developments in the Ottoman Empire, has not been transcribed until today. The fact that such a valuable work has not been transcribed into modern letters until today has caused this work to be used by a limited number of researchers. By transcribing the second book of the Law-u Commerce on maritime trade, this study will fill a major gap in this field and enable more researchers to benefit from this work.
