Abstract (EN)

Many dictionaries were written in various periods of Turkish language history. Dictionaries, most of which are bilingual and written in different geographies from the 11th century to the present, are important in terms of revealing the vocabulary of the period in which they were written. Dictionaries written with a classical method until the 20th century left their place to dictionaries prepared with Western methods as of the 20th century. Notable among various dictionaries written in the 20th century; however, the dictionary named A Condensed Dictionary English-Turkish, written by Ahmed Vâhid (Moran), who did not find much place in the sources, draws attention. It is important in that it offers this resource to the Turks who lived between 1881-1945 and who want to learn English in order to "teach English properly" despite not actually being a lexicographer and philologist. Apart from this, Ahmed Vâhid Bey, who also prepared Turkish-English dictionaries, is notable for preparing bilingual dictionaries in the field of Turkish lexicography. In this direction, the lexicography of Ahmed Vâhid (Moran) and its place in the history of Turkish lexicography and the vocabulary of the 1924 A Condensed Dictionary English-Turkish dictionary have been revealed.
