Unusual metaphors in Huzur of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar

This study is a critical analysis which is based on a novel called ?Huzur? by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar by using cognitive semantics with respect to metaphors. Despite metaphor?s importance in our country this subject has not been handled efficiently. In this study, we handled Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar?s Huzur novel by means of taking everything into consideration put forward by George Lakoff who laid the foundations of metaphor. In this study we aimed at conducting a semantic study based on novel itself.In our study text based (text-analysis-metaphor method) methods are used. We conducted a research on Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar?s Huzur and by means of text based metaphors we detected unusual metaphors and then we commented on them and finally we classified all of them.In the introduction part of our study we briefly gave some information about Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar without details.In the first part of our study we chose to give information about metaphor and its applications. In the second part metaphors with respect to different terms are explained and information about distinctive classification methods were presented.Our study?s third part consists of investigation and classification procedures. Original metaphors in Huzur were detected and analyzed with respect to Lakoff and Johnson?s authentic classification methods and finally they were classfied systematically.In the conclusion part in the light of metaphor examples used and detected we pointed out that Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar had contributed much to Turkish literature and their daily usage.Metaphors which are used in our daily life unconsciously are in fact ruther than being a verbul art, they are terms which regulate our perception system. Metaphors are expressions which are commonly used to Express how people perceive the world and its surroundings.Metaphors are used to explain how we perceive life as a whole and what we think about events, movements, and thoughts. For example in a society in which a metaphor ?Time is money? is used, it is very obvious that time is as valuable as money and can?t be wasted.Index of our study is made up of different sources which deal with literature, impact of it on people and many other studies.
