Ahmet Mithat Efendi's novels and his novelism

In this thesis Ahmet Mithat Efendi?s novels which were written between the years 74-84 have been analyzed. The first period novels of Ahmet Mithat Efendi, who is known one of the most important novelists of Tanzimat Era and Turkish Literature, have been critisized according to the novel elements by the help of taking modern novel critisizm theories.In the introduction of the thesis, a wide information about the subject, aim, content and study method has been given and general purpose and restricts of thesis have been shown.In the first part, information about novel and historical development of novel has been given, the emerging of Turkish novel and development are underlined.In the second part information about the years when Ahmet Mithat Efendi lived and social life is given. Ahmet Mithat Efendi?s life is supported with biographic information he gave in his novels.In the third part, the main and the last part, Ahmet Mithat Efendi?s 15 novels which were written between the years 1874-1884 have been tackled comparatively according to novel critisizm elements by taking the Era?s Turkish and the World novelism tradition into consideration. Ahmet Mithat Efendi?s novels Dünyaya İkinci Geliş Yahut İstanbul?da Neler Olmuş, Hasan Mellâh yahut Sır İçinde Esrar, Felâtun Bey ile Rakım Efendi, Hüseyin Fellâh, Zeyl-i Hasan Mellâh yahut Sır İçinde Esrar, Paris?te Bir Türk, Çengi, Kafkas, Süleyman Muslî, Yeryüzünde Bir Melek, Karnaval, Henüz Onyedi Yaşında, Vâh, Acâyîb-i Âlem and Dürdane Hanım have been basis for our study.In the conclusion part of the thesis, the characteristics of Ahmet ithat Efendi?s novelism and his features that made him distinctive from novelists of his Era have been put forth.Key Words: Novel, Novelism, Characters, Plot, Fiction, Place and Time, Narrator and Point of View, Theme and Style
