Structural analysis of lamineted wooden vessels

Today lots of ships of different kinds are constructed and these ships differ from each other byconstruction, material and form etc. There are some types of ships of an old constructionmethod. For these ships there are some construction formulas and rules. But in case differentships are constructed strength must be proved in order to decide the dimension of the parts.In the following study structural analyses of the hulls made of laminated wood are searchedthorougly. These kind of hulls have some differences from the classic type of hulls. Theframes are from the center keel to the bilge stringer. It means there is just the shell coatingbetween the bilge stringer and the beam. In these kinds of constructions the strength of thesestructures must be proved and the calculations must be done by using finite element method.Wood used in ship building differs from other kinds of materials like steel, iron etc. and isdifficult to model by using such a finite element method. But lamination makes it easier,because laminated wood is more homogeneous than standard wood. This is why the ships areconstructed with laminated wood.The aim of this thesis is to prepare a basic study for ships of this kind that there are no rulesprepared by class societies. But in order to prepare such empirical formulas like class societiesdo, lots of ship hulls of this kind must be analysed.
