Abstract (EN)

As a natural building material, timber has been used in various ways to build from the first moments of history to the present days. The reasons that put timber in a special place in the construction history are in the nature of the timber. The fact that it has a higher bearing capacity compared to its density, that it can be easily supplied and that it can be easily processed to create building elements puts it in a different place from its alternatives. Although it lost its popularity with the development of reinforced concrete and steel construction methods; timber, which were frequently preffered until the industrial revolution, has started to be preferred again due to needs such as sustainability and environmental awareness, which are today's design requirments. Within the scope of the thesis, the historical development of timber and timber structures was examined and their place in today was emphasized. By emphasizing the diversity and design requirements of timber structures, their place in current regulations and standards was examined. Modeling and analysis methods of timber structures were explained and five new categories were proposed for the methods. In order to examine the adequacy and usability of the proposed models, analyzes were carried out with reference to an experimental study available in the literature. By comparing the analysis results with the experimental results, the analysis and modeling methods of timber were examined.
