Abstract (TR)
Transferring the basic universal values to future generations is provided through education. The family transfers the values and culture of the society to the children first, then the schools in the following periods. In these processes, parents and teachers have great responsibilities. It is important for children to be aware of universal and cultural values starting from an early age and apply them in their lives. In order to present a healthy value education to children, it is necessary to know the competencies of parents and teachers regarding value education and their beliefs on the values that should be transported to the child. This study was carried out with the aim of determining the beliefs of parents and teachers about value education during preschool period. The participants of the study; consist of 152 families and 50 preschool teachers who have children in the 4-5 age group attending the pre-primary education institution affiliated to the Ministry of Education and Culture in the Famagusta district of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Simple random sampling method was used in the research. In the research, "Teacher Socio-Demographic Information Form" and "Family Socio-Demographic Information Form" prepared by the researcher were used to determine the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants and their views on value education. "Rank Order of Parental Values" developed by Kohn (1977) revised by Schaefer and Edgerton (1985), and adapted to Turkish by Gürşimşek (2009) was used to determine the rankings of families and teachers regarding values. The opinions and ratings of families and teachers about values were determined by percentage analysis and T-Test and ANOVA statistics were used in order to determine the relationships between the study variables and values. The results of the study determine that the vast majority of participants stated that the value education should be provided to the child with a family-teacher cooperation. It was observed that values of respect, cooperation and love are the values that families consider most important. It is stated that the values that teachers most care about are respect, love and kindness. When results of Parental Values Scale, is examined, it is seen that the scores of parents and teachers are equal in social sub-dimension. While the scores of parents in the compliance sub-dimension are lower than the scores of the teachers, the scores of the self-management sub-dimension are the opposite of this.
