The effect of family on secondary school student's success ( Ümraniye district example )

In this study; it is delved into the effect of family on secondary school student?s success. The purpose of the study is to make a contribution to strengthen The Turkish Education System. During the theorical process of this study the sources were searched thorougly and in the field study it is benefitted from the surveys.As known, the goal of the education system is to bring up both qualified and successful people. Today there are students graduating successfully from the secondary education schools, however the number of the students who fail to graduate successfully is cosiderably high. This aspect arises the necessity of analyzing and searching the effects causing students failure. In this study family, as one of the factors that effects student success, is discussed. Parents being primarily liable for their children?s education and and the fact that kids spending most of their time with them make family more important compared to other factors.The characteristics of the family such as montly income, educational background, view point about education, activities performing as a family in leisure time, reading habits, the number of the family members and the relationship within the family effect the student?s school success. It has been searched that whether these characteristics have effect on student success via performing surveys. As a result of the surveys it has been realized that family effects the success of secondary school students. For the forthcoming researches, the results of this study will help pedagogues and families to improve students school success.Key Words: Education, Family, Secondary School, Student, School Success, Factors Effecting Success.
