Abstract (EN)
The rules for the design of steel structures in accordance with the American AISC 360-10 and Turkish Seismic Code (TSC-DBYYHY 2007) were investigated and studied in this study that is prepared as M.Sc. thesis. A structural system that has "high ductile frame in one direction and high ductile eccentrically braced frame in other direction" was designed with regarding the principals of both codes. The presented thesis consists of six chapters. In First Chapter, the subject is introduced, common information is given, and the provisions of Turkish, American, and European (EC3) Codes for steel structures are discussed with a comparison. Principals of design in accordance with the AISC 360-10, fundamentals of LRFD and ASD, and classification of sections are deeply investigated in Second Chapter. In the Third Chapter of presented study, "Regulations for the Earthquake Resistant Design of Steel Structures" are investigated with regarding the Turkish Seismic Code (TSC - DBYYHY 2007)-Section 4. The scope and fundamentals of these regulations, ductile and high ductile frames, and the regulations and basics of analyzes for centrally and eccentrically braced frames and foundation connections are detailed. "Beam to Column Connection Details in Moment Resisting Frames" that was given as an appendix to TSC (DBYYHY 2007)-Section 4 are explained and detailed in Fourth Chapter. The design of a six-storey steel structure that has "high ductile frame in one direction and high ductile eccentrically braced frame in other direction" is presented in Fifth Chapter. The structural analysis was performed with using SAP2000 structural analysis software. Loading combinations that are defined in AISC 360-10 are used in the structural analysis. In the last chapter, a thorough study and interpretations on the characteristics of AISC 360-10 and TSC (DBYYHY 2007) is summarized with a comparison of the results for the designed steel structure Keywords: Allowable stress design (ASD), Load and resistance factor design (LRFD), plastic analysis, AISC 360-10, Eurocode 3, DBYBHY-2007, tension members, compression members, beams, classification of profiles, slenderness
