ivAN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION INTO MACHINABILITY OF AISI303 AUSTENITIC STAINLESS STELLS(M.Sc. Thesis)Hasan Emrah YEYENGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYMarch 2006ABSTRACTIn this study the purpose is the determination of the most suitablecutting parameters in the machining process of AISI 303 stainlesssteel. To improve the machinability properties of the materials, whichare used in manufacturing industry, is the research subject. Machineelements which are subjected to high loadings and the materials usedin manufacturing industry should have high mechanical properties.Beside this since high mechanical properties affect the machinability ofthe material negatively, big problems at the manufactring stage areseen. To have high corrosion resistance, ductility and tension strengthare the essential properties of stainless steels. By their structure, materials like crom, nickel and molibden affect their machinabilitynegatively. In the scope of this study, beside analysing the problemswhich are faced during the machinability of AISI 303 austenitic stainlesssteels and solutions for this problems, comporison with AISI 304 is alsoaimed.Science code : 708.3.028Key words : AISI 303, machinabilityPage Number : 60Adviser : Yrd.
