Abstract (EN)

The present study aims at examining the extent, to which personality traits, goal orientations, academic self-efficacy belief and self-esteem explain the academic procrastination behaviours of university students within the framework of a mode. To this end, a model was created and a model test was performed in order to determine the direct and indirect effects of the research variables within the compass of a cause and effect relationship. In the present research in which a causative comparative pattern was used, the research group consists of 630 university students in total from different grades, 406 of whom are female and 224 of whom are male. In the data collection phase of the present research, the ?Aitken Academic Procrastination Scale? which was developed by Aitken (1982) and adopted to Turkish by Belkis (2007), the ?Five Factor Personality Scale? developed by Bacanli, Ilhan and Arslan (2007), the ?Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale? which was developed by Frost, Marten, Lahart and Rosenblate (1990) and adopted to Turkish by Ozbay and Misirli Tasdemir (2003), the ?Success Orientations Scale? developed by Akin (2007), the ?Rosenberg Self Respect Scale? which was developed by Rosenberg (1965) and adopted to Turkish by Demirtas and Donmez (2006) and the ?Academic Self Efficacy Scale? which was prepared within the scope of the present research were used. In the analysis of the research data, AMOS and SPSS 15.00 software were used. Path analysis modelling and the Sobel statistic technique were used in the present research in order to test the hypothesis models. In addition, the techniques of DFA, Pearson Moments Multiplication Correlation Coefficient, Unrelated Samples T-Test and One Way Variance Analysis were used. It was found that the academic procrastination behaviours of university students are directly and indirectly related to personality traits, success orientation, academic self efficacy belief and self respect within the framework of a cause and effect relationship. The results obtained were discussed in terms of the literature and theories, and accordingly some suggestions were made to the researchers and practitioners who will use deal with these issues in the future.
