Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACTAN ANALYSIS OF THE LEVEL OF THE JOB SATISFACTION OF THEACADEMIC STUFF WORKING AT NEAR EAST UNIVERSITYDORSAN, HilmiM.A Thesis, Department of Education SciencesSupervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. A. Elçin SUMMAKJanuary 2007, 121 pagesAcademicians are the most important components of the universities, which arepioneers of scientific developments. Job satisfaction level of them is related to bothqualities of graduates of their university and success of their scientific researches. While the job satisfaction level of scholars supports the success of the university, jobdissatisfaction gives rise to corruption of the image of the university in the long term.In this research, we tried to determine job satisfaction level of the academic staffworking at the Near East University considering some independent demographicvariables affecting job satisfaction level. Job satisfaction scale which is used as datagathering tool to determine job satisfaction level is applied in a survey format to 76academicians working at various faculties of the Near East University (such asFaculties of Engineering, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Arts andSciences, Atatürk Education Faculty and Law). The survey is composed of two parts;part one has 7 independent variables about personnel information and part twocontains 32 items identifying perceptions of the academicians related to jobsatisfaction. In the questionnaire, Likert-type scale with four degrees was used toanalyze survey items. In order to measure the reliability of the scale, Cronbach Alfatest was applied and Alfa coefficient was found 0,9430 which is said to be a highreliability. In order to analyze data related to research problem and hypotheses, statistical analyses like frequency, percentage distribution, arithmetical averages, independent models; t test, one-way variance analysis and Scheffe test were used. Asa result of the research, arithmetical average of points that academic personnel gotfrom the job satisfaction scale was found 102,83. Considering this value, academicstaffs? satisfaction levels were found higher than the average (80,32), so it wasagreed that their job satisfaction levels were high. There was no significantdifference between satisfaction levels and the variables; the faculties that academicpersonnel working at, their educational background, title, marital status, period ofduty, ages and sexes. Therefore, the main hypothesis of the research was said to beconfirmed and the sub-hypotheses were verified.Key words: Job Satisfaction, Academic Staff, Lecturer.
