Abstract (EN)
Exhaustion is one of the most important factors that affect an individual in organizational environment and social life. The fact that an individual is multifaceted and the possibility that these facets can psychologically affect the individual, made addressing the individual with his/her different aspects essential. The factors that lead to occupational exhaustion and the necessity to diversify the search to find solutions for these have emerged. Exhaustion, which can especially be seen in jobs where there is face to face interaction, is an important factor that affects academic staff in universities. The state of mind and attitude towards the job of the academic staff, who are in the director and decision maker position of education process, determines whether the education process would be successful or unsuccessful. The study group of this survey comprises of 185 academic staff working in Abant İzzet Baysal University, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and Malta University, Faculty of Education and Faculty of Economy, Management and Accounting. The aim of this survey is to examine the occupational exhaustion level of the academic staff in accordance with the gender, age and faculty variables. This study is a descriptive survey model, in which the assessment tool of Maslach Burnout Inventory is used. When comparing the quantitative data between two groups t-test is applied, and when the testing the average difference between the two in the Mann-Whitney-U is applied. Regarding the findings resulting from the study, it is seen that academic staff working in Malta suffers from exhaustion more than the academic staff working in Turkey, however there are no differences in desensitization and exhaustion levels in the sub-dimension of personal success in accordance with the country variable, of the academic staff. Whereas it is determined that the male academic staff working in Malta feels the exhaustion regarding the sub-dimension of emotional exhaustion more than the academic staff working in Turkey, it is also determined that the academic staff working in Malta feel less exhaustion regarding the sub-dimension of personal success.Averages of emotional exhaustion, desensitization and personal success levels do not differ in accordance with the country variable. It is determined that, whereas for the 23-33 age group, there are no differences between the academic staff in Turkey and Malta, regarding the sub-dimensions of emotional exhaustion, desensitization and personal success, for the 34-44 age group, the academic staff in Malta feels more exhaustion regarding the sub-dimension of desensitization. Regarding the sub-dimension of personal success, it is determined that the academic staff in Turkey feels more exhaustion. Whereas, for the 44+ age group, the academic staff in Malta feels more exhaustion regarding the sub-dimension of emotional exhaustion, there are no differences between the two countries regarding the sub-dimension of personal success. Regarding the findings resulting from the study, it is seen that, there no differences between the emotional exhaustion, desensitization and personal success levels of the academic staff of faculty of education and faculty of economics in accordance with the country variable.
