Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to determine the species composition and the biovolume of phytoplankton, and the variations in the main physical and chemical parameters affecting phytoplankton distributions in 33 lakes of Akarçay and Sakarya Basin. Sampling was carried out in May 2018 during field trip. Water temperature, specific conductance, pH and dissolved oxygen were measured during field trip using a Hach Lange water probe. Water transparency was determined using a Secchi disk during the sampling. Total phosphorus, total nitrogen and chlorophyll-a were analyzed according to standard methods. The identification and counting of phytoplankton were carried out using an inverted microscope. For counting, Utermöhl sedimentation chamber was used. Total biovolume was calculated from the biovolume of cells. Phytoplankton was evaluated using phytoplankton functional groups. In order to determine the similarities and differences of lakes using phytoplankton and environmental variables, Cluster Analysis and Canonical Correspondence Analysis were performed.During the course of the study, a total of 283 taxa in Sakarya Basin and 132 taxa in Akarçay Basin have been identified in Bacillariophyta, Charophyta, Chlorophyta, Cryptophyta, Cyanobacteria, Euglenozoa, Miozoa and Ochrophyta. Chlorophyta was determined as dominant group in both of the basin lakes. Codon-B, Codon-C, Codon-D, Codon-E, Codon-F, Codon-H1, Codon-J, Kodon-LM, Codon-LO, Codon-N, Codon-X2, Codon-X3, Codon-W1, Codon-W2 and Codon-Y were found to be dominant.Based on Cluster Analysis and physical and chemical parameters; Cüneyt Sönmez Pond, Çubuk Lake, Küçük Akgöl Lake, Sülüklü Lake, Akdeğirmen Dam, Çamkoru Nature Park Pond and Tazlar Satı Gelin Pond; Kayısulu Lake, Çılgınlar Pond, Yıldırım Evci Pond and Ovacık Lake; Sapanca Lake and Anagöl; Mogan Lake, Eymir Lake, Ağzıkara Pond, Tinaztepe Pond and Gezler Pond; Çavuşcu Lake, Üçlerkayası Pond and Akşehir Lake; Akgöl 1 Lake and Karamurat Lake were thought to be similar. Canonical Correspondence Analysis divided the dominant functional groups and lakes into 4 different groups taking into account the physical and chemical variables.
