Quality of life and survival investigation in patients of lung cancer

In our clinic, 33 patients were examined to assess the factors affecting quality of life and survival of lung cancer. Patient gender, age, smoking, malignant type, type analysis, disease stage, resorting symptoms, radiographic findings, diagnostic methods, serum LDH and CEA, treatment and side effects, in terms of response to treatment assessed were examined their impact on quality of life and survival. Weakness and pain were observed to affect the quality of life, ATS dyspnea scoring was found to be compatible with the SF-36 physical function subscale.The presence of metastasis was found to affect the quality of life with depression. Progress after treatment was seen that affected in the quality of life.ECOG and Karnofsky Performance Scale was found that compatible with the SF-36 physical function subscale. Surgical treatment was effect for the better on survival.But the presence of pleural involvement, worsening despite treatment and presence of new metastases were found to adversely affect survival. Significant effect was not observed on quality of life and survival such as lost of weight, comorbid disease, the stage of disease, time of initial metastasis, tumor type and treatment (apart from the effect on survival of surgical treatment). It was therefore concluded that the impact of these factors should be investigated in the study of lung cancer patients to determine the factors affecting the quality of life purpose and limits patients more prominent and should be more patients were included.
