Abstract (EN)

According to the report of the World Health Organization, lung cancer is the first type of cancer in the world that causes death most often in males and the second in females. As an estimate, 1 million new cases are seen every year worldwide. With the development of technology in recent years, more accurate and clearer results have been obtained with preoperative imaging methods. Positron emission tomography - computerized tomography (PET-CT) is increasingly used among these imaging modalities. Recently, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLO), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLO), which are complete blood parameters, are considered as indicators of inflammation. We aimed to investigate the association of NLO and PLO with PET-CT parameters in our study and whether NLO and PLO values have a predictive value for PET-CT parameters in lung cancer. Ninety-eight patients with pathologically diagnosed lung cancer between January 2013 and February 2017, who were enrolled in clinical, laboratory and pathological electronic systems and who had taken PET-CT imaging before the treatment and whose images and reports were recorded in the Oncology Clinic of Inonu University are included to our study . In our study, there was no difference for PLO an NLO values between patients with small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). When the type of diagnosis was not considered, the values of tumor maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) and mean standardized uptake value (SUVmean) were found higher in male patients and this height was statistically significant (p = 0.026). A statistically significant correlation was found between NLO and tumor size in the NSCLC patient group (p = 0.006, r = 0.275). There was a significant negative correlation between NLO and PLO values ​with both liver SUVmax (p: 0.028, r: -0.236; p: 0.021, r: -0.247 respectively) and liver SUVmean (p: 0.007 r: -0.289; p: 0.008, r: -0.282 respectively). As a negative correlation was found between NLO and PLO and liver SUVmax in patients with NSCLC (p: 0.028, r = -0.236, p: 0.021 r: -0.247, respectively), there was no significant correlation in the group with SCLC. There was a negative correlation between aort SUVmean with NLO and PLO in the NSCLC group (p: 0.042, r: -0.219; p: 0.025, r: -0.240 respectively). No statistically significant relationship was found between NLO and PLO with aort SUVmax in patients with SCLC tumor/aort SUVmax ratio was significantly higher in patients with NSCLC (p: 0.032). There was no significant relationship between NLO and PLO with tumor/aort SUVmax and SUVmean in our study. There was no statistically significant correlation between NLO and PLO with tumor/aort SUVmax in both groups.
