Changes and expectations in the socioeconomic characteristic of the population in the Mediterranean basin countries (1950-2100)

The Mediterranean Basin, which has witnessed the birth of civilizations throughout history and served as a bridge between ancient civilizations and continents, stands out as an area of human, economic and cultural interaction. The Mediterranean Basin has geopolitical and geostrategic importance not only for the twenty-four coastal countries of the Mediterranean, but also for the continents of Africa, Asia and Europe. The Mediterranean Basin, which is at the heart of the energy supply, has a significant share in energy transport, maritime trade and tourism activities in the world. In addition to all these, the demographic potential of the Mediterranean Basin countries increases the economy political importance of the basin compared to Europe, which is faced with the problem of elderly population. In this study, which consists of four chapters, Changes and Expectations in the Socioeconomic Characteristic of the Population in the Mediterranean Basin Countries (1950-2100) are handled with an interdisciplinary approach. There is a close relationship between population structure and socioeconomic conditions, political and cultural developments. For this reason, rather than just a statistical population study, population structure and dynamics have been tried to be dealt with in all dimensions. In the first part, the concepts of population and population geography are explained in a theoretical framework. In the second chapter, the structural characteristics and spatial distribution of the population in the Mediterranean Basin countries are examined. In the third chapter, socioeconomic characteristics and future predictions of the population are discussed. In the fourth and last chapter, the current problems of the Mediterranean Basin countries are handled.
