Abstract (EN)
Introduction: Coronavirus is a respiratory tract infection caused by a viral agent, which was detected in 2019 and then caused a worldwide pandemic. The Ministry of Health has made plans to control the epidemic in our country, and the disease has been tried to be controlled with masks, restrictions, and vaccination protocols. In this process, the most important place where emergencies and the first application took place was the emergency services. Emergency services worked actively to relieve the acute symptoms that occurred in the patients. In this study, vaccination status and the effect of vaccination on the outcome of the patients admitted to the emergency room with the PCR test were investigated. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out on patients over 18 years of age, whose diagnosis of COVID-19 was confirmed by PCR test, who applied to the Emergency Department of Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine between June 1, 2021, and August 31, 2021. During this period, demographic data, comorbid diseases, hospitalization and mortality, and vaccination histories of the patients who applied were recorded and compared. Results: Our study included 2963 patients, 1504 (50.76%) of them were women, and the mean age of the patients was 38.08±15.26. Hypertension was the most common comorbidity with a rate of 13.84%. While 90.62% of the patients were discharged from the emergency department, the first 1-month mortality was 2.23%, and the first 6-month mortality was 2.93%. 51.77% of the patients were found to be unvaccinated. It was observed that as the age of the patients increased, mortality increased significantly in the 1 and 6 months period (p<0.0001). A significant correlation was found between comorbidities and 1-month and 6-month mortality of the patients. It was determined that the hospitalization rate of unvaccinated patients increased 1.51 times, 1-month mortality 2.71 times, and 6-month mortality 2.73 times compared to patients who were vaccinated at full dose. The 1-month mortality was 0.167-fold, the 6-month mortality was 0.17-fold, and the hospitalization 48 requirement was 0.33-fold in patients vaccinated with 2 or more doses, unvaccinated or 1-vaccinated. In the comparison between vaccine types, 1-month mortality was 1.7 times, 6- month mortality was 2.16 times, and the need for hospital follow-up was 3.59 times higher in patients receiving full-dose Sinovac compared to patients receiving full-dose Biotech. Conclusions: As shown in the literature, mRNA and inactivated vaccines administered to patients protect against mortality in 1 and 6 months and reduce the need for hospital follow-up. It is observed that patients who received the mRNA vaccine were more effectively protected than patients who received inactivated vaccine. Keywords: COVID-19, Emergency Service, Vaccine
