Determination of demographic, systemic and radiographic characteristics of patients applied to The Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Clinic of Akdeniz University Faculty of Dentistry

Objective: Anamnesis, extraoral-intraoral examination, radiographic examination and other special examination methods are used for the diagnosis of diseases seen in the oral and maxillofacial region. The aim of this thesis study is to examine the existing radiographic data and anamnesis records of the patients who applied to the Akdeniz University Faculty of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (OMR) clinic, and to establish the demographic, systemic and radiographic characteristics of the patients. Method: The anamnesis and diagnosis records of the patients who applied to the OMR clinic between 01.01.2013-31.12.2019, and the radiographic records of the patients referred to the x-ray department were retrospectively analyzed. Tables were created according to years and total numbers by investigating the number of patients according to the demographic, systemic and radiographic classifications. Results: The number of women applying between 2013 and 2019 was statistically significantly higher than the number of men. When the distribution of all patients who applied to the OMR clinic by age was examined, it was observed that the patients who applied were 15 and over and 29.3% of these patients were in the 30-44 age group and had the highest rate. When looking at the radiographic data, it was seen that the most taken radiography was panoramic radiography (90%). Conclusion: Thanks to the anamnesis records, the systemic disease characteristics of the area where the study was performed were revealed, and this situation guides the diagnosis and treatment planning. The most desired radiograph types and the clinics that requested the most radiography were determined. Thus, improvements can be made in the operation within and between departments. With the determination of common diagnoses on panoramic radiographs, the issues to be considered in patients of certain age and gender groups have been clarified.
