Abstract (EN)

Aim: This study is evaluate the levels of vitamin D deficiency and factors that may led to vitamin D deficiency in women over the age of 18 years residing in Antalya. Material and Methods: The study was conducted in cross-sectional type. In study were involved 360 women over the 18 years of age applied for any reason to Akdeniz University Medicine Faculty's Family Medicine polyclinic's between June 2018- January 2019. A questionnaire prepared by researchers was applied to the participants with face-to-face technique. Serum vitamin D levels of these women were taken retrospectively from our hospital data base. Results: Severe vitamin D deficiency (‹10 ng/ml) were detected in 14.2% participants, moderate vitamin D deficiency (10-20 ng/ml) in 47.2% and soft vitamin deficiency (20-30 ng/ml) were determined in 27.8% of participants. There was not statistically significant relation between vitamin D levels and height of the participants, their BMI's, ages, place of residence, marital status, education levels, employment status, income levels, smoking and alcohol use cases, the number of children they have, whether to get vitamin D support or not during their pregnancies, whether to take or not vitamin D or other vitamin supplements, the duration of their physical activity, the frequency of consumption of vegetables and fruit, fish and dairy products, their skin colors, the time of sun exposure, the chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, hypothyroidizm and cancers, the diseases of the digestive system and history of previous bone fracture (p›0.05). It was determined that there was a statistically significant correlation with vitamin D levels and having a child, frequency of meat consumption, sunbathing at sea, dressing type (open or closed), the sunscreen's rate of SPF preferences (p ‹0.05). Conclusion :As a result of study it has been determined that 89.2% of women had lower vitamin D levels than normal. Nutritional status, insufficient outdoor activity, luck sun bathing and a small area of skin surface that exposed to the sun are noteworthy as a causes of vitamin D deficiency. However, to make an assessment on this issue more extensive studies with large samples are required. Keywords :Vitamin D, woman, deficiency, risk factors
