Comparison of Farabi's virtuous society and the modern knowledge society in the context of reason and knowledge

In Farabi thought is emphasized that man knowledge and experience need metaphysical. According to this thought, man exists with a structure related to reason, knowledge, faith and virtue. Farabi's works examines the concepts of individual, society and state in a certain system. In this study Farabi's works that is successfully related this system to ontology-cosmology discipline will be examined social side of knowledge alongside individual side. On the social side, defined by the concept of "virtuous" society in his work Al-Medinetü'l Fazila, it is accepted that man gains superiority with his reason and can only reach his unique purpose with knowledge. As for the modern information society, it will be examined to understand the understanding of knowledge that has changed in the historical process and present day faith-knowledge relationship. It's accepted that faith gives its position to scientific knowledge in time. This is because of the thought that man develops in the context of reason and he scientifically makes progress in the context of knowledge. This gives the impression that metaphysics is not necessary at first glance. In this context in this study will be examined that the structure of virtuous society presents a different knowledge and faith relationship from this. Furthermore it will be examined that what this corresponds in understanding of the modern knowledge society. In the first part of this thesis contains first Farabi's sudur theory then respectively understandings of knowledge, morals and virtue under the title of virtuous society. The virtuous society that all understandings corresponds to its as theoretical and practical is last title of first part. The second part contains a process that begins with Enlightenment in terms of understanding the knowledge society. Understandings of knowledge and morals called the modern society examined with different titles. Finally, occurring the knowledge society and understanding of knowledge and morals in this society are mentioned. The third part is final part of this thesis. Compared virtuous society and knowledge society throughout the thesis under titles that respectively alem imagination, reason and knowledge concept, morals approaches.
