Abstract (EN)
The widespread use of glass systems in the field of architecture and the increase in energy costs have increased the need for energy efficiency. The use of Low-e glass technology, which can reduce energy consumption, in buildings has gained importance. The thermal permeability coefficient value (U value) of glass systems affects energy consumption. A reduction in energy consumption is expected by using glass systems with low U values. In this thesis study, the energy performance of glass systems in which smart materials are integrated as an alternative to Low-e glass systems was examined. The drawing files of the Kentplaza Office Building were modeled in the Revit program and energy simulation was made with the Insigt plug-in. In addition to the current situation, energy simulations of smart glass systems have also been created. The Revit program made it possible to evaluate the energy performance of different glass systems. According to the current situation of the Kentplaza Office Building, it has been determined that the scenario in which the thermochromic glass system is applied reduces energy consumption by 14.8%, the electrochromic glass system by 9.7% and the suspended particle glass system by 4.1%. Additionally, when compared to the current state energy data, the energy consumption of the liquid crystal glass system increased by 3.2%. Photochromic glasses, on the other hand, increased by 5.1% compared to the energy consumption of the existing glass system and were determined to be the glass system that consumes the most energy. Thus, the effects of smart glass systems on energy efficiency were evaluated. As a result, the properties of smart materials to be integrated into glass systems should be well known. It is possible to save energy with smart glass systems selected according to the desired feature. Smart materials continue to be developed as building material alternatives that comply with the principle of sustainability and contribute to energy efficiency.
