The study of the concept of smart city and the studies conducted on the example of Ankara

Along with the population of cities, their needs are increasing rapidly, and the capacities of both their natural and human resources are under great pressure gradually. Cities are expected to develop sustainable resource saving moves, open to innovation continuously, adapt to technological development and transformation activities so that they can break this pressure and manage potential negative impacts. Today, cities are able to respond to such an expectation thanks to the services of smart city applications based on 21st century information and communication technologies (ICT). As a concept, smart cities refer to the sum of their digital potential, which demonstrates the technological breakthroughs of cities in their geographies and the efforts of cities not to stay away from global trends. Cities whose innovative steps are accelerated with the concept become smart connected settlements that gain immediate access to digital solutions of their problems and needs, have strategic plans for the future, become the center of brand value urban products. In our study, the concept of smart cities has a flexible definition structure and its use as a upper concept in the same pattern with more than one term is examined in detail, and how the concept is adopted by different perspectives is explained in detail. The study also explains what are the smart components that we can see as complementary to smart cities, what these parts mean, and explanation of multiple groups of smart components. In the study, the geography of Ankara, which was revealed in detail, what digital activities Ankara has as an investment in this smart future was also shared by examining the examples carried out on the agenda of various major issues such as governance, mobility, environmental management, quality of life in the city, which will increase in number every day and deepen their application potential.
