The effect of using interactive whiteboard in mathematic lesson upon students? motivation, academic success and attitudes

In this study, the effect of traditional learning environment and interactive whiteboard used environment upon the academic achievement, motivation and attitudes of the students were evaluated. Thus, analytical geometry subject in university 1st grade class basic math curriculum was chosen by researcher so as to measure academic success. Experimental research model was used and pretest posttest with control group method was applied.The study was carried on 2010 ? 2011 second semester. Four 1st grade classes from the department of primary education in university of Kırıkkale were used as the subject group of this study. On the one hand, traditional learning environment was applied to the control group consisting of 90 students and on the other hand, interactive whiteboard used environment was applied to the subject group with 90 students.The data of the research before and after the application of the study were gathered by an a achievement test which the researcher prepared according to the standard of the 1st grade basic math curriculum, instructional material motivation survey, interactive white board attitude survey and with interviews. Research has taken 5 weeks. The achievement test data received after the application of the study were analyzed by ANCOVA. The data received from surveys analyzed by standard deviation and means.The results may be summed up as follows:1. Statistical difference has found between pretest and posttest scores of the students who learn in an interactive whiteboard used environment and of those who learn in a traditional teacher-oriented environment.2. Experimental group students have positive attitudes towards interactive whiteboard.3. Experimental group?s motivation was higher than control group.
