Abstract (EN)

Smartphone use; with its advantages as well as disadvantages, it remains an important potential problem for students and the rest of society. Although smartphones are a part of the learning process today, university students are likely to have difficulty achieving academic success due to the excessive use of these technologies. Smartphone addiction is largely; It is closely related to Fear of Missing out, which is defined as the concern that others may have rewarding experiences and the desire to constantly stay in touch with what others are doing. This study aimed to examine the role of fear of missing out on the impact of smartphone addiction on academic success. The study group of the research consists of senior students studying in 4-year faculties at Fırat University. In line with the criteria determined according to the data received from Fırat University Student Affairs Department; The sample size was calculated as 367. 199 of the participants are women and 168 are men. In the research, the Personal Information Form, which reflects demographic information (age, gender, faculty, CGPA, social media applications used and frequency of use), was tested for validity and reliability; The Fear of Missing Out Scale and the Short Form of the Smartphone Addiction Scale were used. The data obtained was analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 package program. Research findings: A statistically significant relationship between Fear of Missing Out and Smartphone addiction; There is a low level negative relationship between smartphone addiction and academic success. Gender and faculty did not differ in students' Smartphone addiction and Fear of Missing Out levels. Additionally, it has been determined that Fear of Missing Out does not have a regulatory role in the effect of smartphone addiction on academic success.
