Comparison of the differences personality design of visually disabled who do or don't sport actively

Abstract (EN)

Aim: it is aimed to compare visually disabled students of high-school age who do or do not sport actively and determine the common issues related to personality design. Materials and methods: 40 visually disabled volunteer individuals the ones do sport ( n: 20 ) and the ones do not sports ( n: 20 ) participated to the study. The study lasted 8 weeks. To measure the level of self-acceptance of the visually disabled who do or dont do sport, it was used self-acceptance inventory developed by Temuge (1987) personal information form developed by the researcher to reach the demographic information of the visually disabled students who participated to the study. For the statiscal analyses Mann-Whitney U test carried out. Findings: According to the test results carried out to emphasize the differences of personality design of the visually disabled individuals ; it was reached that: for the sub-criterion of believing self-sufficient in some issues and become successful in solving some life problems by himself/herself, I quickly feel devastated against the failure and lose self-confidence, hopeful of my future, consult others while planning something but I give the final decision, I always in need of being protected and supported by others, for the sub-criterion of acceptance responsibility for their own behaviours; because of being an indecisive person, my life becomes unsatisfactory, I have difficulty in deciding self-issues, for the sub-criterion of not showing extreme pudency and shyness; I generally get sweat and feel distressed, if required I join the peer groups without waiting for their invitation, I generally like to be in community, I am a sociable person, I can not talk comfortably in community. For the sub-criterion of leading a life in accordance with own values and own beliefs; I generally in an effort to please others more than myself. For the sub-criterion of accepting bodily and physical structure; I am as beatiful or handsome as most of my friends. For the sub-criterion of believing acceptance by others; I hesitate to visit others for the thought of giving disturbance to the host. For the sub-criterion of believing in having some negative and positive sides in personality; when people praise me I am thinking of myself not as valuable as they think, I can adopt to the new situations and a pessimistic person. For the sub-criterion of considering the negative sides as much as positive sides as a part of the personality; I have to do the study that I am responsible for, meaningful as the İndependent variables are P<0.05 and P<0.01. Result: In the light of the result of the study; it was concluded that visually disabled who practise sport have better personality design differences more than those who do not practise sport and sport has a positive impact on visually disabled individuals.
