Acute diverticulitis of the colon: Factors affecting treatment, mortality and morbidity

Patients who were treated for acute diverticulitis of the colon between 2010 and 2014 in Ege University Faculty of Medicine Department of General Surgery were retrospectively analyzed and 65 of them were enrolled in the study (as their medical recordings were proper). Demographics of the patients and clinical parameters such as preoperative lab values, radiologic imagings, choice of treatment, type of operation and operative findings for operated patients were evaluated. Patients were classified into groups according to Hinchey and Ambrosetti classifications and by evaluating choice of treatment for acute diverticulitis of the colon; effects on mortality and morbidity was determined for each treatment modality. Similarities and differences between treatment options that are practiced in our clinic and stated in the literature were analyzed and put forward.
