Effects on survival of disseminated intravascular coagulation in acute myeloid leukemia patients

Abstract (EN)

Acute Myeloid Leukemia is a common disease that causes significant mortality and morbidity.Despite advancements in disease treatment and monitoring, survival rates remain low. Identification of new risk factors and management of complications are of critical importance.One of the common complications that may accompany AML is Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC). Although DIC has a low treatment rate, there are few studies on its impact on mortality in AML. In our study, which included 151 cases admitted to our clinic, patient data were retrospectively reviewed. Demographic data, diagnosis dates, laboratory values, overall survival times, and DIC scores according to ISTH criteria were recorded and categorized as M3 AML or Non-M3 AML subtypes. Among all AML patients, there was no significant difference in overall survival times between those with and without overt DIC. However, in the Non-M3 subgroup, the overall survival time was found to be significantly shorter in the group with overt DIC. In order to assess the prognostic value of the ISTH DIC score in AML treatment follow-up, multicenter prospective studies with randomized clinical, molecular, and cytogenetic risk factors are needed.
