Investigation of iscemia modified albumin, oxidative stress and antioxidan enzyme levels in acute myocardial infarction

Abstract (EN)
Early and sensitive diagnosis tests for myocardial ischemia are not adequate for patients who have chest pain caused by ACS and in the risk of high cardiac ischemia. Also there is a possibility of being discharged of the hospital without ACS diagnosis because of the poor sensitivity of current approaches. Studies are being continued for more effective and rapid diagnosis of ACS. Some biochemical tests which determine such as CK-MB or troponin levels are used in diagnosis of myocardial ischemia. However, these tests are not satisfactory in some cases. Recently, a biomarker, ischemia modified albumin (IMA), is used in diagnosis which is considered to be advantageous when compared with other methods. In literature, it is proven that IMA level increases following to ischemia and it returns to normal range in 48 hours. It is shown that major factor causing IMA is free radical formation in ischemic tissue. In this study, systematic analysis of parameters, which is considered to be related to myocardial ischemia, has been performed in the groups between control group and myocardial ischemia group where MI was diagnosed by EKG, CK-MB and troponin. For this purpose, GPx, SOD and CAT enzyme activity has been investigated and GSH and MDA levels that are indicator for oxidative stress were compared in groups, patient and controls. In conclusion, IMA levels were significantly high in MI diagnosed group when compared with controls. MDA level has been elevated in patient group whereas GSH level was decreased. SOD, GPx and CAT enzyme levels were decreased in patient group where it is believed that oxidative stress causes the cardiovascular diseases. Systematical investigation of parameters, which are related to myocardial infarction, has been performed and it is believed that such parameters can contribute significantly to early diagnosis of the disease, prevention from the disease and understanding mechanism of the disease development.
