Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT An Experimental Study on the Evaluation of Acute Organophosphorus Pesticide Intoxications of Rats Çukurova region is a large agricultural and industrial area and pesticide use is common. Therefore acute and chronic exposures and poisonings due to pesticides are more often than any other regions. It is important to understand the mechanisms and cause of death in all medico-legal cases. Laboratory analysis has of value and importance especially in those intoxication cases. Dichlorvos is the most common pesticide detected in organophosphorus pesticide intoxication cases. Scientists and medicals have to deal with pesticide poisonings at many departments, such as, forensic toxicology laboratories, forensic medicine institutes and also emergency rooms. An experimental rat study is of valuable on dichlorvos which has been carried out in order to determine the mechanism and parameters of poisoning. In our study, dichlorvos was given to 40 wistar albino male rats in variable doses by gavage method and postmortem blood samples were analysed by Gas Chromatography (NPD) device. Our results are showing the below as; the amount of dichlorvos in blood, when 225 mg/kg dichlorvos was orally given to rats: maximum 4.97, minimum 2.15 and average 2.97 mg/L, when 110 mg/kg dichlorvos was orally given to rats: maximum 1.71, minimum 1.50 and average 1.62 mg/L, when 55 mg/kg dichlorvos was orally given to rats: maximum 0.3425, minimum 0.1043 and average 0.0163 mg/L, when 20 mg/kg dichlorvos was orally given to rats: maximum 0.0437, minimum 0.0163 and average 0.0310 mg/L. The method and also the results of this study will apply in our daily routine laboratory. This is a plenary research report. It is believed that this study has an importance in evaluating acute pesticide intoxications cases at our region. It is suggested that there should be further and larger serial studies on rat tissues and bloods. Key Words: Forensic Toxicology, Dichlorvos, GC/NPD, Rat, Çukurova Region.
