Abstract (EN)

The Severity of Poisoning, The Relationship Between Electrocardiographic Changes And Erithrocyte Cholinesterase Level and Mortality İn Acut Pesticide PoisoningsAim: Informations about cardiac effects of the organophosphate poisoning base on limited studies and case reports. We aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship between erythrocyte cholinesterase and cardiac toxicity in organophosphate poisoning or not and the effect of this relationship on mortality.Material and Methods: In this prospective study we have recorded 39 patients of organophosphate poisoning who came to the emergency department for two years. The age, sex, duration of hospitalization, need for respiratory support, cardiac findings of the patients have been recorded and during the admission the erythrocyte cholinesterase level with clinical and electrocardigraphic criteria have been evaluated statistically whether there is a relationship or not.Results: The mean erythrocyte cholinesterase levels were 15,37±6,97(4,44-38,14)U/grHb. Hypertension (17,9 %) from cardiac manifestation, and sinus tachycardia (48,7 %), prolonged QT interval (20,5 %) and right bundle branch block (20,5 %) from electrocardigraphic changes, were common findings. We did not find any significant relationship between erythrocyte cholinesterase levels and electrocardigraphic findings. Mortality percentage was 12,8 %. In comparison of the erythrocyte cholinesterase levels and electrocardigraphic findings of death and survival patients, there wasn?t any relationship between the results.Conclusion: In our study, sinus tachycardia, prolonged QT interval, right bundle branch block were common electrocardigraphic findings. After the assesment, there wasn?t any meaningful relationship between erythrocyte cholinesterase levels and electrocardigraphic findings of the patients. The serum cholinesterase levels were lower in death patients. Both death and survival patients had similar erythrocyte cholinesterase levels and electrocardigraphic findings. As a result the cardiac toxicity is common in organophosphate poisoning and more studies are needed on this manner.Keywords: Electrocardigraphic findings, erythrocyte cholinesterase, mortality, organophosphate poisoning, serum cholinesterase
