Agricultural climatology in Alaçam (Samsun) district

In this study, the compatibility of climate parameters in Alaçam with the agricultural products in the region and their effects on agricultural products were tried to be examined. Alaçam is located on the 78th km of Samsun province in the Central Black Sea Region of the Black Sea Region. It is a district administratively affiliated with Samsun, located in the west. The study area consists of the Alaçam district center and the mountainous areas rising from the south of the district, the western side of the Kızılırmak delta, the plains that constitute important agricultural areas, the Black Sea coastal area, the rivers passing through the district and its surroundings and flowing into the Black Sea, and the occasional areas between the flat plains and relatively high mountains. It consists of plateau plains. Agricultural climatology has been the subject of study in terms of examining the effects of climate characteristics on agricultural products. The main purpose of the study was to consider the potential of the district in the context of agricultural climatology by trying to establish the length of the growing season of agricultural products in the district, growing temperature, global warming and the connection between this situation and the climate, and evaluations of possible scenarios that may occur as a result of possible climate changes. Spruce is under the influence of climatic conditions depending on the general air circulation in the atmosphere and geographical location characteristics. While humid Black Sea climate characteristics are seen in the northern part of the district, semi-humid transitional climate and continental climate characteristics can be seen as you move away from the coast and on the south-facing slopes of the mountains. While products such as rice, corn, pepper, watermelon and melon are grown in the delta area that forms the northern and northeastern parts of the district, as you move away from the coast and towards the south, you pass into the zone where agricultural products such as tobacco, wheat, barley and vetch are concentrated. In this study, first of all, the climatic characteristics of Alaçam district and its immediate surroundings were determined, and the relationships between changing climate conditions and the productivity, diversity and production amounts of agricultural products were tried to be examined from the recent past to the present. In this study, in which methods such as statistical data, trend analysis, individual interviews, ArcGIS and ArcMAP were frequently used, it was observed that the climatic conditions were suitable for sustainable agricultural activities in Alaçam; However, extreme temperature and rainfall conditions observed in some periods have created variations in agricultural production and productivity.
